Drag-and-drop meets "describe your business and we'll build it."

Wix has been the dominant no-code website builder since 2006. In 2023-2024 they shipped an AI Site Generator that takes a prompt like "I'm a yoga instructor in Austin, I teach vinyasa and prenatal, with a calming aesthetic" and produces a complete multi-page site — text, layout, imagery, color palette, business info — in about 60 seconds. You can then keep editing in the regular Wix Studio editor, or regenerate sections by chatting with the AI.

Who it's for: Small business owners, freelancers, restaurants, photographers, real estate agents, coaches — anyone who wants a real, hosted, custom-looking website in under an hour, with zero code. Power users and developers should look elsewhere.

Key features

AI Gen AI Site Generator

Answer 5-10 questions about your business, and Wix builds a complete site — homepage, about, services, contact — with copy, images, and a navigation menu. The 2026 version supports iteration: chat to swap sections, change tone, add pages.

AI Text AI text & SEO

AI-powered meta tag generator, alt-text generator, blog post drafter, FAQ generator, and product description writer. Built into the editor — click any text block and "Improve with AI."

AI Image AI image & design

Generate hero images, section backgrounds, and product photos from prompts. Auto-resize and crop for every breakpoint. New in 2026: AI Image Auto-Enhance and AI Background Remover are included free.

Business Built-in commerce & bookings

Native Wix Stores for e-commerce (dropshipping, inventory, payments), Wix Bookings for service businesses, Wix Restaurants for menus/ordering, Wix Events, and a built-in CRM. No plugins required.

Editor Wix Studio + classic Editor

Wix Studio is the newer pro editor (responsive, dev-mode API). The classic Wix Editor is the friendly drag-and-drop most users start with. You can switch between them based on your skill level.

Apps 800+ apps & integrations

Native apps for email marketing, live chat, scheduling, social, analytics, and AI (Wix's own AI tools + third-party). Zapier-equivalent: Wix Automations. Most are free or freemium.

The honest take

✓ What works

Fastest path from blank page to a real, hosted, mobile-responsive website
AI Site Generator is genuinely good for non-technical owners — output beats Squarespace's Blueprint AI
All-in-one: hosting, domain, payments, bookings, email, CRM — no plugin sprawl
Massive template library (800+) — every niche covered
Free tier is real and useful for testing before committing
24/7 support on paid plans

✗ What doesn't

Once you build on Wix, switching to another platform is painful (no clean export)
AI Site Generator output is "good enough" but generic — needs heavy editing for brand-specific sites
Page speed on heavy AI-generated sites can be slow (mitigated with Wix Turbo)
Pricing escalates fast — premium plans + paid apps can hit $50-100/mo
No source code access on classic Wix (Studio has dev mode but it's limited)
Sites show Wix branding unless you're on a higher-tier plan

Verdict

If you're a non-technical small business owner who needs a real website this week — not in 3 months — Wix AI is the right choice. The AI Site Generator produces a working, hosted, mobile-responsive site in under an hour, and the all-in-one commerce/booking stack means you don't need five other tools. Squarespace wins on pure aesthetics, Shopify wins on serious e-commerce, Webflow wins on design flexibility — but Wix wins on "I need a website today and I don't know code."
